Opened over 10 years ago and established as one of the original themed bars in Christchurch the Southern Blues Bar is a great place to go to for live entertainment.

Open from 7pm every night of the week the Southern Blues Bar is a night spot for those wanting to listen to live music into the small hours of the morning. Featuring different acts each night  and show casing local and national talent in a mainly rock to blues style.

The walls are adorned with posters of visiting artists to New Zealand and an assortment of sculptures of rock art that "Steve Costigan" the owner has collected over the years. A walk around just to view these items is worth while in itself.

With live music every night of the week in an assortment of styles for your entertainment, seating and a dance floor. Thursday is Jam night, when musicians can get together and enjoy playing and interacting with different styles of music and musicians. Anyone is welcome to come along and participate.

Featuring a state of the art sound system complete with 24 track mixing desk, professional sound mixing, and minimalistic lighting to add atmosphere the bar has a dance floor area and seating in a cafe bar style with stools and learners and individual tables and chairs.

The Bar serves a variety of beers on tap and in bottles and is one of the few bars where American beers are freely available. The trend to ready to drink spirits is catered for with a wide variety available, plus traditional spirits and mixers and a selection of wines.

A safe storage area is available by asking the bar staff who will issue you with a ticket for your coat or valuables.

The New Zealand drinking laws prohibit any persons under the age of 18 years of age from purchasing alcohol.
